I have no complaint about the quality of the prints so far except that I am concerned that this out-of-gamut warning indicates a much smaller gamut than I was expecting. They have to call me back after checking with their engineers. I have asked Canon tech support about this because the out-of-gamut warnings with this matte paper on the MP990 might exceed 65% or more, even on a portrait. However, I often use Matte Photo Paper, and I find that in Photoshop CS3 with the gamut warning on, there are far more out of gamut colors with the MP990 than with the MP960 or the Canon i860 (only cyan, black, magenta, yellow, and pigment black inks) on the same photo using this Matte paper. It may be that the Canon profile for the paper I am using is just better than the profile for the same Canon paper for the other printer. The MP990 printer does seem to match my calibrated monitor much better than the MP960.

That unit used photo cyan, photo magenta, cyan, yellow, black, and pigment black inks. It is replacing a dead Canon MP960 multifunction unit. First of all, I have only printed a few photos because I just got the printer. I have an issue with the Canon MP990 printer, which has cyan, yellow, magenta, black, gray, and pigment black inks. If I get curious I might disconnect it from the router and enable wireless again to see if this has somehow "magically" fixed things.I hope it is okay to start a new thread with this issue even though I put it in another thread earlier that had a different issue with the MP990 printer. Operationally for me it doesn't make much difference as it is sitting next to the router. and rather defeats the point of buying a wireless printer I suppose). (This of course may not be an option for you. It's not much of a solution but I connected it directly to my wireless router and it appeared as a printer in seconds and all issues were resolved. I search quickly on the VMware site and found nothing. So as I said, I don't have a solution, and I am not even sure that VMware is causing the problem but it is starting to look more and more likely. The scanner does appear - but can never be "opened". However, I have 2 machines at home and both of them recently upgraded the specific version of VMWare Fusion being used and since then the printer has basically disappeared and never appears as a Bonjour printer no matter how long you wait.

Let me start by saying that I do NOT have a solution to this right now, however, at one stage, after a lot of trial and error I did get both the printer and the scanner working by downloading all of the latest drivers. There is information about how you can stop the Parallels virtual network ports via Terminal so that you can see the networked printer. If you don't want to part with your money, then check this forum by searching Parallels.

This issue is resolved with Parallels 5, but there is an upgrade cost involved. If the MP990 as a printer does not appear, then do you have Parallels 4 or earlier installed? This is known to stop the networked Canon printer from appearing in the Default browser view. When it does, select it - the Print Using menu will automatically change to Canon MP990 series.

The printer should appear after a short while. After you see the scanner just wait with the Default window open. If you don't see the scanner, then something is wrong with your MP990 wireless setup. So, when you click to Add the printer and select the Default browser view (the More Printers menu mentioned to the OP by his Canon support is used for 10.5, not 10.6) you will see the MP990 as a Bonjour Scanner very quickly. The scanner portion of the machine appears very quickly but the printer portion, which uses the canonijnetwork protocol to publish the printer on the network, takes some time to appear (usually no longer than 10 seconds). To add the MP990 as a network printer you need to be patient. I have the MP980 and have been printing via wireless for a couple of months now with Snow Leopard.

With the correct Canon drivers installed, either via the Canon web site or via the Apple download, you should be able to get the MP990 working.
